Dromon Bureau of Shipping Achieves ESYD Accreditation for FuelEU Maritime Report Verification

14 March 2025

Dromon Bureau of Shipping (DBS), a leading classification society and verification body, is pleased to announce it has been accredited by the Hellenic Accreditation System (ESYD) for the verification of FuelEU Maritime Reports. This accreditation signifies DBS’s commitment to supporting the maritime industry in complying with the new and critical FuelEU Maritime Regulation.

The FuelEU Maritime Regulation, a key component of the European Union’s “Fit for 55” package, aims to reduce the greenhouse gas intensity of maritime transport. It mandates that ships calling at EU ports must progressively lower the greenhouse gas intensity of the energy used onboard. This requires robust monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) processes, including the submission of verified FuelEU Maritime Reports.

“We are proud to have achieved ESYD accreditation for FuelEU Maritime report verification,” said Marinos Ioannou, DBS Environmental Manager. “This accreditation underscores our dedication to providing high-quality, reliable, and impartial verification services to our clients. We understand the importance of accurate and timely reporting for compliance with the FuelEU Maritime Regulation and are ready to support the Maritime Industry in navigating these new requirements.”

ESYD, the National Accreditation Body of Greece, ensures that verification bodies meet the highest standards of competence and impartiality. This accreditation demonstrates DBS’s technical expertise and adherence to the stringent requirements of ISO 14065 and ISO 14066, which are critical for greenhouse gas verification activities.

With this accreditation, DBS is now authorized to:

  • Assess the conformity of FuelEU Monitoring Plans.
  • Verify FuelEU Maritime Reports submitted by shipping companies.
  • Assess the accuracy and completeness of data related to fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Issue verification opinions that demonstrate compliance with the FuelEU Maritime Regulation.

DBS’s experienced team of verifiers are equipped to assist shipping companies in understanding and meeting the requirements of the FuelEU Maritime Regulation.

“Our goal is to provide seamless and efficient verification services that enable our clients to achieve compliance while minimizing disruption to their operations,” added Mr Ioannou. “We are committed to supporting the Maritime Industry in its transition to a more sustainable future.”
