SKAN – Authorization of Service Providers

C25027 | 30 April 2025

Notice to: Ship Owners / Managers/ Operators / Surveyors / Auditors:

The St. Kitts and Nevis International Ship Registry has issued Maritime Circular MC 19 09 (Rev. 1) which provides revised guidance on the Administration’s requirements and procedures for authorization of service providers for maintenance, thorough examination, operational testing, overhaul and repair of lifeboats and rescue boats, launching appliances and release gear on St. Kitts and Nevis flagged vessels.

The Circular reminds that IMO Resolution MSC.402(96) establishes a uniform, safe and documented standard for maintenance, thorough examination, operational testing, overhaul and repair of the specified equipment.

Points to Note:

  • Letters of Authorisation are issued by the Administration for an approved service provider to perform services on St. Kitts and Nevis flagged vessels for a period of 1 year or 5 years.
  • A 1-year authorisation permits the provider to perform services for a specific vessel only, while a 5-year authorisation doesn’t have any restriction on the number of vessels.
  • Approved service providers are required to renew their Letters of Authorisation yearly (1) or five (5) yearly, depending on the authorisations issued.

Act now

Ship Owners/ Managers/ Operators/ Surveyors are to take note of the contents of the Maritime Circular and be guided accordingly.
