Dromon’s Annual R&D & Innovation Snapshot – 2025

Every January, Dromon Bureau of Shipping reflects on the progress made across our research, development, and innovation initiatives. Our Annual R&D & Innovation Snapshot highlights the achievements of the past year, showcases completed and ongoing projects, and sets the tone for another year of advancement in digital maritime operations, cybersecurity, and maritime security technologies.
We are pleased to report significant milestones across our RDI activities in 2025, including major achievements in EU-funded programmes, national schemes, and internal innovation initiatives.

1. UNDERSEC (Horizon Europe) – Entering the Final Year of Implementation

Dromon continues its active participation in the UNDERSEC project as it enters its final year of implementation. During 2025, the project successfully closed its first reporting period, achieving:

Completion of the first technical and financial report
Successful validation of early system components
Consolidation of consortium activities leading into the final development phase
UNDERSEC moves into its concluding stage in 2026, strengthening capabilities in real-time monitoring, alarming, automated threat detection, and maritime security response.

2. NAFTOPLUS (National Project) – Successfully Completed

In 2025, Dromon finalized its role in the NAFTOPLUS project, a national R&I initiative co-funded by the Research and Innovation Foundation under the RESTART 2016 – 2020.
The project delivered a specialized SaaS platform for dynamic workflow and workload assessment in maritime companies, supporting smarter operational planning and performance optimization.

3. Cybersecurity Enhancement Project – Completed & Certified

As part of our commitment to digital resilience, Dromon completed a national Cybersecurity Enhancement Project in 2025. The initiative included:

Internal system upgrades
Strengthening of cybersecurity policies
Compliance alignment with national and EU standards
Following these activities, Dromon achieved Cyber-Hygiene Certification, demonstrating our robust cybersecurity posture as a maritime service provider.

4. Digital Innovation & Internal Development – Enhancement of MyDromon2
Through the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Dromon continued its digital transformation journey.
Enhancements to MyDromon2 included:

Process automation improvements
Refined digital workflows
Strengthened functionality for customer interaction
Internal data-related upgrades supporting operational efficiency

These developments contribute to a more streamlined and responsive digital ecosystem within Dromon.

5. Strengthening Dromon’s R&D Operations

Throughout 2025, Dromon invested in the growth and formalization of its RDI activities, including:

Structured R&D processes for evaluation, monitoring, and documentation of innovation actions
Expanded collaborations with research institutions and industry stakeholders
Active participation in international networking events
Representation in major maritime, technology, and cybersecurity conferences abroad
Increased engagement in the European R&I ecosystem

These efforts enhance our organizational readiness to participate in complex research initiatives and support continuous innovation in our services.
